IDEA
Stars Visible Through attempts to weave together three domains of musical performance: live acoustic performance, interactive computer processing, and offline/fixed sound. Over the course of the piece, the performer is constantly negotiating these domains. The aim is not to achieve musical equilibrium, but to make the piece a live and ongoing negotiation of how these performance domains interact. The performer and the audience can then confront the question of what is musically successful or unsuccessful in relation to each domain. The piece is ultimately about transparency. Sounds from each domain move between background and foreground in constant flux.
The live computer processing is programmed in Max/MSP. The offline stereo sound was composed using RTCmix.
